Gestalt Language Processing 101- the basics of language acquisition through chunking, scripting, and whole language
Tuesday February 25, 2025 11:00am - 12:00pm MST
When we think of language development, most of us think through the lens of the Analytic Language Model- learning smaller units of language first that develop into longer and more complex language through development. The Gestalt Langauge Model turns that assumption on its head and assumes that some people learn language in longer, more complex chunks first. This session will cover the basics of these two models and strategies for supporting Gestalt Language Processors.

Wednesday February 26, 2025 10:15am - 11:15am MST
According to Common Core and Essential Elements Standards every student must engage in literacy activities involving reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language. For students with SpeechLanguage impairments, or using assistive technologies this can be a demanding task.” Literacy, the Common Core and AAC” provides a collaborative approach to providing instruction addressing these requirements. The presenters will demonstrate units which address Core Vocabulary along with Blooms Taxonomy. Each literacy unit can be used with resource students as well as those requiring AAC to participate. Each unit contains four weeks of lesson plans and carry over activities. Participants will receive a sample unit to try with students.
